Common Hitting Mistakes
If your going to become a great hitter and improve baseball hitting power, speed and accuracy you will need to know some of the common mistakes made when at the plate. The next time that your up to bat be more conscious of some of these mistakes and note if you make some of them or not. If you know you make some of these we can help correct them and improve hitting power, speed, and accuracy.
- Stepping out of the plate or pulling off pitches - I've seen a lot of youth batters do this. The either back up from the plate or let their front side fly open when the pitch comes. Making them drop the bat to their side neglecting the whole reason they are at the plate in the first place. TO HIT THE BALL.
- Upper Cutting the Pitch - Also known as the "Upper Cut Swing". This can occur when the batter drops their hands or the back leg collapse, both of these can cause the batter to swing upward at the pitch.
- Barring the Front Arm - The batter locks or stiffens the front arm as the swing begins. Many young batters will have assumed the correct stance and launch positions but have a tendency to tighten up as the swing begins. The barring of the front arm causes the swing to loop and to be too long. The batter has great difficulty taking the bat to the ball and making contact unless the ball is thrown exactly on the swing plane.
By identifying some of these mistakes you can greatly improve baseball hitting power. And the sooner that you improve on these mistakes, the sooner you will be able to raise your batting average.
Correcting the Mistakes!
Hard work and practice can help you improve baseball hitting power. If you are dedicated and can recognize your errors you can improve hitting power faster with more efficiency. The great hitters all have something in common PRACTICE and with the more practice the easier it seems to improve baseball hitting power. If you apply some of my tips to correct some of the mistakes above I promise that you will notice a change in the way you attack the plate!
- Stepping Out Of The Plate - Can be corrected by having the batter move his front heel slightly closer to the plate the usual. You may also try a method I do with the soft toss which is "step in and hit", if you have the batter repeat this method with his hitting routine you will see improvement.
- Upper Cutting the Pitch - May be resolved by making sure the batter keeps his hand at the very top of the strike zone. Also make sure the batter does not dip their back side shoulder or drop drop their hands during the swing.
- Barring the Front Arm - The proper swing has a "short stroke" or path to the ball. The best way to correct barring of the front arm is to make sure that the batter keeps the front arm elbow bent or at an "L" position prior and during the swing.
